Quadriads: Another choice
In some instances, the Root of a Quadriad will be doubled, while the 5th is removed completely. Since now there are only three different elements in the chord, it no longer fits the definition of a Quadriad, and must be described as a "Seventh" chord. Note: it is not a Triad either, because the notes are not stacked in tertian intervals.
In short, all Quadriads are Seventh chords, but not all Seventh chords are Quadriads.
Figure 1 illustrates a Seventh (non-Quadriad) chord.
